Project DescriptionThe upgrading program consists of implementing a suite of safety related measures as well as pavement rehabilitation projects. Phase One of the Dukes Highway Upgrade consisted of: Phase Two of the Dukes Highway Upgrade includes: Further projects will be progressively identified and commenced over the Nation Building Program. As part of this corridor upgrade, the South Australian Government has committed $20 million to undertake work including on the South Eastern Freeway and Princes Highway sections of the corridor. BenefitsThe main strategic drivers of this program are the safety and efficiency of passenger and freight movements along the corridor. The package of works will improve safety, infrastructure handling capacity and efficiency, transport productivity and travel reliability on this nationally strategic and export oriented freight corridor. FundingThe Australian Government has committed $80 million to the project, in partnership with the South Australian Government. TimetableThe Phase One package of works commenced in March 2009 and was completed in December 2009. The Phase Two package of works commenced in February 2010 and is expected to be completed by mid 2014. The Rest Areas component of Phase Two is expected to be completed by early 2011. |
