Project DescriptionThe Australian Government has committed $52 million under the Community, Beef and Mining Roads Improvement Program in partnership with the Northern Territory Government who will contribute $29 million to remote communities for better roads. This funding will benefit a range of road projects in rural areas of the Northern Territory by delivering improved outcomes in road standards for the sector. Seven Roads have been identified under the Program including: BenefitsUpgrades to roads will include high level bridges, sealing, pavement strengthening, widening and approaches to crossings. The improvements will provide better access for regional communities by keeping roads open longer during the wet season. The works will also reduce the imposition of weight restrictions, travel time and vehicle operating costs, improving safety for pastoral and mining industries as well as local communities. FundingThe Australian Government has committed $52 million to the project, in partnership with the Northern Territory Government. TimetableThe works will commence in 2009 and will be carried out progressively over the Nation Building Program period to mid 2013. |
