Project Description

The Australian Government, in partnership with the NSW Government, is committed to improving the Great Western Highway east of Katoomba. As part of a package of works to upgrade the existing highway, this project will progress works between:

The projects will improve road safety and travel conditions for all road users and reduce peak traffic congestion.

Funding

The Australian Government has committed $100 million to upgrade the Great Western Highway.

Timetable

Tenders for construction for Wentworth Falls East were called in October 2008. Construction commenced in May 2009 and is expected to be completed in early 2012. Construction tenders for sections between Station Street, Woodford and Winbourne Road, Hazelbrook were called in mid 2009. Early works commenced in March 2010 and the project is expected to be opened to traffic in late 2012.
