Project Description

Section 4A involves the construction of 2.5km of four lane, dual carriageway freeway from the Geelong Ring Road at Princes Highway to Anglesea Road terminating at Hams Road. Work will include construction of bridges over Pigdons Road, Princes Highway West and Waurn Ponds Creek.

Benefits

Section 4A will greatly enhance the efficiency of transport movements between Melbourne, Geelong and western Victoria, delivering substantial benefits and savings to industry in both cities and in south western Victoria.

This project will also service other proposed investments such as the Blue Circle quarry expansion and the subsequent realignment of Anglesea Road, the planned Armstrong Creek residential development area and the Victorian Department of Transport’s proposed rail freight yard.

Funding

This project is jointly funded with the Australian Government and Victorian Government each contributing $62.5 million.

Timetable

Construction commenced in March 2009 and is expected to be completed by late 2010.  Ghazeepore Road opened to traffic on 23 December 2009.
