Project DescriptionA planning study of alternative road routes for a higher level crossing of the Fitzroy River flood plain. The study will include a flood plain investigation to determine the most economic solution for improving the immunity of the existing road and rail crossing or an alternate flood free route to bypass to the west of Rockhampton.
This project is also known as the Fitzroy River Flood Plain study. BenefitsThe existing road and rail crossing of the Fitzroy floodplain can isolate central and northern Queensland from the rest of the state in a major flood event. This study will investigate options to improve flood immunity of the existing route or develop other routes. FundingThe Australian Government has committed $5 million to the project. TimetableThe study commenced late 2009 and is expected to take 18 months to complete. |
