Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program

The Australian Government aims to deliver improved safety and productivity outcomes for the heavy vehicle industry and other road users through the provision of $70 million towards heavy vehicle safety and productivity projects over four years from 2008-09 to 2011-12.

Specific program objectives are to continue to:

  • reduce the proportion of road accidents involving heavy vehicles by targeting heavy vehicle driver fatigue and speed; and
  • increase productivity by enhancing the capacity of existing roads.

The program is available to provide funds to state and territory road authorities under four categories:

  • Rest Area Projects;
  • Parking/Decoupling Bay Projects;
  • Road Enhancement Projects; and
  • Technology Trial Projects.

The Program Guidelines outline the administration arrangements and key considerations for selecting projects to be funded by the Program.
